Do I need a GP referral for a hearing assessment?
No. You can book directly with us, and same-day appointments are often possible. If you are claiming through private medical insurance, your insurer may ask for a GP referral first, so check your policy. We are registered providers for Bupa, AXA, Aviva, WPA, Vitality and Healix.
Can hearing loss be reversed?
It depends on the cause. Conductive losses caused by ear wax, infection or glue ear are often temporary and treatable. Sensorineural hearing loss, the age and noise related kind, is usually permanent, but well fitted hearing aids verified with Real Ear Measurement can restore access to speech and everyday sound.
What should I do about sudden hearing loss?
Treat sudden hearing loss as urgent. If your hearing drops noticeably over a few days or less, in one or both ears, seek medical care within 72 hours, from your GP, NHS 111 or an emergency department. Prompt treatment matters, and we can carry out urgent diagnostic testing to support your care.
How much does a hearing assessment cost?
Comprehensive hearing assessments start from £120 for self-paying adults, and children's hearing tests start from £90. The appointment lasts around 60 minutes and goes beyond standard pure tone audiometry, including tympanometry and speech testing where appropriate. Insurance-funded assessments are billed to your insurer with the reports they require.
